About Tabletop Bookshelf
“Tabletop Bookshelf has quickly earned its spot as a trusted seller of great indie and small press TTRPGs.” — Polygon
Tabletop Bookshelf is an independent bookstore and gaming lounge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, specializing in indie tabletop RPGs and solo games. We work directly with independent creators and small-press publishers to bring their work together in one place, online and on our shelves.
Our Story
Tabletop Bookshelf made its first sale in December 2023 as an online shop for indie RPGs. Since then we’ve shipped thousands of games across the country, become a home for dozens of independent creators, and put thousands of dollars into new crowdfunded gaming projects.
In March 2026 we opened our gaming bookstore and lounge at 134 W Pittsburgh Ave in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood, close to where tabletop roleplaying games were born.
What We Do
A curated indie RPG bookstore. Every title is hand-picked, from solo RPGs and journaling games to fantasy, horror, and old-school adventures. Many come straight from Kickstarter and BackerKit, so we’re often the first place to stock them. We also carry fiction, board games, dice, and miniatures.
A gaming lounge in Milwaukee. Reserve a table or grab a day pass, play anything from our Game Library, or let our staff run a game for you. We host game nights, book clubs, and designer meetups every week. See upcoming events.
Solo games, every month. Solo Party is our solo game subscription. A hand-picked solo game shows up at your door each month.
Honest reviews. Read professional takes of indie RPGs and solo journaling games in Read & Reviewed.
What We Stand For
We exist to support independent game creators. We don’t sell AI-generated games (read our AI Policy), and we focus our shelves on the creators who benefit most from a bookstore that champions their work. Meet some of them on our Featured Publishers page.
Who We Are
Tabletop Bookshelf was founded by Tom Gibes, a longtime game runner, game designer, busy dad, and 4th-generation Milwaukeean (as featured in Milwaukee Magazine). Today a small team runs the store, the lounge, and every online order. You’ll also find us selling at conventions and pop-ups around the Midwest.
Customers rate us 4.9 out of 5 from more than 800 reviews. See what they’re saying.
