A Pulp Bestiary for Mazes Fantasy Roleplaying

Turns classic monsters into pulpy, maze-ready hazards.

A bestiary and lorebook of weird classic monsters for MAZES Fantasy Roleplaying, OSR style games, other Old School roleplaying games.

In A Manual of Monsters, you will find a monster for every situation and encounter - based on ideas from a famous Manual, these pulpy, strange beasts form all new challenges for your players!

Includes over 50 new monsters and over 60 new edges.

Take a gander at these mighty malefactors:

  • CLEVER OGRE MAGUS - Slightly slimmer slabs of force and muscle than their Hideous Ogre counterparts. They are powerful spellcasters, preferring the evocation and illusion aspects of Forge magic or pure Enchantment
  • GEM EATING ELEMENTAL - They can pass effortlessly through earth, and slowly through unworked stone making them difficult to corner within a subterranean environment like a cavern or natural dungeon. Gem Eating Elementals can sense gemstones from a distance and are drawn towards concentrations of them.
  • MURDEROUS MILLIPEDE - Welcomed by tyrannical inhabitants of underground lairs for their ability to keep tunnels clean and clear of wandering Venturers and monstrous infestations.
  • ROTTING GORGON - A terrifying creature of Earth Domain ingenuity from its sharp horns to its vicious back kick. When it charges in a straight line, the Gorgon tramples through its opponents.
  • VORACIOUS HYDRA - A nightmare mass of regenerating snake-headed necks attached to a slimy amphibious body. They are often found with an odd number of heads, a direct reflection of both the total danger of the Hazard and the number of attacks it can take during its moment.

Feast your eyes on these deadly Hazards:

  • CHAMELEON- This Hazard can blend in with its surroundings making it incredibly difficult to see.
  • DRAINING- This Hazard draws energy and essence from its victims when it strikes them beyond the physical injury done by the blow.
  • GAZE- The gaze of this Hazard is dangerous. It may cause fear, petrification, rot, or some other type of deleterious effect. Avoiding a Gaze usually involves dodging with BOOTS or resisting with BONES.
  • PATHWISE- Pathwise is more than just knowing the land, it’s being a part of a place and having the ability to move and navigate through it naturally and without incident. Pathwise Hazards never get lost.
  • TRAPPER- This Hazard enjoys setting traps and pitfalls to wound and stymie anyone who crosses paths with it.
  • VENOMOUS- Venomous Hazards can deliver the POISONED Condition. While poisoned, you lose a HEART during your turn. You can clear POISONED with a BONES SAVE.
